Overnight Trip to Wilmington, NC

A few weeks back my husband and I went on a short two day vacation to Wilmington, NC.  While we were there we checked out the downtown area of Wilmington, Southport (where Safe Haven was filmed), Oak Island, and Carolina Beach. We had so much fun exploring and checking out everything that area had to offer.

Here are some pictures from our trip.  The first pictures are in Wilmington.  This is overlooking the Cape Fear River.

I am a huge One Tree Hill fan so I loved seeing places they filmed.  We went across the river to where the River Court used to be.  I was definitely disappointed to see it no longer existed.  We also spent over half an hour trying to locate the Clothes Over Bros location.  I think we found it but it just looks so different now it was hard to tell, sadly.

We did however discover the most wonderful pizza place on the planet.  It didn't look that great from the outside but as soon as we walked in and saw the pizza, I felt like I was in NYC.  We decided to split a piece because we were planning to go out to eat later and just wanted a small snack.  I can honestly say it was one of the best pieces of pizza I have ever eaten.  We thought very seriously about changing our dinner plans and going back for more pizza.

We spent the first day exploring Wilmington itself.  The next day we spent the morning at Southport and Oak Island.  It was so beautiful down there.  I really enjoyed seeing the small museum in the visitors center displaying pictures and props from Safe Haven.  We had just seen the movie a few days before we went down.  The movie was AMAZING by the way!  We were able see where parts of the movie were filmed which was so fun.

From Southport, we drove across a bridge leading to Oak Island.  We had a fun time driving the stretch of the island.  The houses that lined the road were each so different and unique.

Later that afternoon we explored Carolina Beach.  Bella loved running through the sand.  She doesn't really like water but still went after the waves, barking and wagging her tail.

We had such a full two days.  We love exploring new places together and this trip was great for us.

Face Cookies

Today has been a snowy, cold day and I loved it!  I definitely didn't accomplish everything I wanted to today, but I was so thankful to have a whole day with my hubby!  We were able to just relax, watch TV, read our Bibles, and do a little cleaning.  I also decided today was the perfect day to get some baking done!  I tried my hand at making face cookies.  These are a special cookie that I used to get from Day's Bakery when I was growing up.  Day's Bakery is a small bakery in my home town that makes some of the most wonderful sweet treats!  One of my absolute favorites of their's are face cookies.  Basically they are just heart-shaped sugar cookies with frosting and they are amazing!  I loved going to pick one out because they always had so many different colors, making each one look so different.

I'm not going to share a specific recipe today because I honestly wasn't thrilled with the one I used for the cookies today.  I will keep working to perfect the recipe before I share it.

Here are some pictures of the process!

This last picture is a cookie that my hubby decorated :-)

Welcome to At Home In Your Home!  My name is Susie and this is my blog about my adventures in hospitality, baking, home DIY, and party and event planning, organization, and more.  As a relatively newly married girl, I am still working on creating a homey environment for my husband, myself, and our sweet dog, Bella.  I love having people in my home and hope to always create an environment that they feel at home in too.  Organizing is so much fun for me.  I am constantly looking for new ideas to make my home more organized and put-together.

I also love to bake! Especially cakes and cupcakes!  I'm excited to share all of my baking ideas, tips, and how-to's here.  Along with that I will share meal ideas and helpful hints for cooking for two.

I love being married and I am hoping to continue learning how to be the best wife I can.  I'm excited to share our adventures as a young couple with the cutest dog!

I hope that this blog can be a place where I share all the things I love in life.  From dinner parties and sweet treats to helpful hints in organizing your closet and fun home DIY projects, I will be sharing everything about feeling At Home In Your Home.
